Analyzing the poem by John Donne closely, we can see that he used a lot of figures of speech in order to convey what he feels. In the first line, when he said â€Å"three-personed God,† he was referring to the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit concept (Jokinen). He was asking the Lord to punish him. The reason behind his request is that he is getting bold, getting so full of himself, as reflected on the â€Å"that I may rise and stand.† He asks that the Lord overthrow him, and then uses descriptive words â€Å"break, blow burn, and make me new,† these word all metaphors of making pottery. In the first lines, there is a clear statement of his aggressiveness, wherein he doesn’t fear even questioning God Himself. He then poses a simile, â€Å"I, like a usurped town to another due,† wherein he compares himself to an uprising, a rebellion. This is a battle of belief, of whether he remains faithful or not.He admits that he was trying hard to believe in the Lord, however, he himself wasn’t able to defend with reason, because of his weak belief, for his reason dwells upon that weakness. He then counters this statement by saying that he dearly loves the Lord, and he wishes to be loved back. But the problem would be his promise to the Lord’s enemy, which is the devil. These shows a simile of physical conflict, of violence which Donne wishes to convey to the readers.The closing statement on the other hand speaks of a grotesque imagery, a description of rape, which would convey the relationship with God, as seen by Donne. But this may be because he wants to show the power of God, that even though there are various factors that affects a certain person, yet still, God remains powerful and can make or break you, depending on how you want it to be. One main characteristic of Generation Y is that they love to be in control, and with these three items that Apple has created with I in front has proved that they are in charge of their item and they can personalize it and make it them. Apple has impacted Generation Y so greatly because it has allowed them to carry their music everywhere they go and it has changed the way that society communicates with the outside world, because it allows everyone to check emails, read the news, stay up to date on their favorite sports team, and even watch movies and play games. The impact that Apple has made on Generation Y has greatly changed the way that they listen to music more fashionably, the way they communicate with each other, and how they interact with the outside world through social media and has shaped the generation into what everyone knows them as, tech. savvy. Apple has been around for 30 years, it was first founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak (The History). The company produced personal computers that were found on the market such as the Apple brand, Macintosh and Power Mac computers. When the nineties came around the company experienced a decrease in the sales because of increasing companies and decided to do something different (The History). In 2001, Apple introduced the iPod which was one of the first MP3 players that could hold over 1,000 songs, allowing teens and even adults everywhere to listen to whatever they wanted, wherever they went which altered the music industry (30 Years). The iPod could hold 10 hours of battery life and fit in the pocket of any pair of pants, the iPod instantly replaced everybodys generic MP3 player. As the years progressed so did the iPod, in 2003 Apple introduced the iTunes store which allowed customers to purchase music, apps, and books online, while iPods could not hold video, this feature later became available in 2005 and then in 2007 the iPod became touch screen, practically just like the iPhone without the phone (Mallin Todd, 63-74). In 2007, the first iPhone was launched, loaded down with apps and memory for one to be able to find whatever they needed, and eventually hurt Apple because it decreased the need for a separate iPod because the phones acted as MP3 players as well (Mallin Todd, 63-74). Along with all of these other inventions Apple also came along with the invention of the iPad in 2010, which was somewhat like a portable computer all compacted into a 10-inch touchscreen tablet (Mallin Todd, 63-74). With all of these inventions came bugs and issues along the way Apple has also produced multiple versions of the iPod, iPhone, and even iPads, and today there is even an iPad mini. With all this technology evolving so does society and Generation Y, and the technology that is available impacts the way that the generation grows. In a blog written by Anastasia Goodstein on the NBCNEWS website, she talks about how Apple seemed dominate in the education market during the 1980s but that the biggest impact on teens was the creation of the iPod (Goodstein). When a survey is conducted on top of most teens list is an iPhone which is even put over cars on what is wanted most by teens (Goodstein). The love for iPod did not just happen overnight though, teens idolized Steve jobs and this was unusual for most teens (Goodstein). Goodstein talks about how research that was conducted by Viacoms teen network, found that apple is absolutely essential to teens (Goodstein). When interrupting a teens conversation, it is found that the main topic of it is the iPod. Most teens have a need for these items because it makes them cool. Music is a teens main love, it helps express who they are and release emotions that they have no other way of releasing. Apple provided teens with the ideal MP3 player eliminating what other generation s knew such as the Walkman or a CD Player, which they had to either listen to the radio or make a mix tape on their computers which took a huge amount of the day, but with the new invention of this MP3 player it allowed them to download songs without the whole album, and allowed them to create their own playlist on the spot without delay to what mood they were in that day (Goodstein). Apple not only gives the teen a way to express this need but they attract the teens through the use of their design. With solid white earphones against a black silhouette of a person dancing with jams blasting on a commercial attracts attention, causing teens to want this item because they want to have the lasted technology (Goodstein). A lot of the way that this item has made such an increase in sales is because they use teens as their marketing strategy. When teens are in high school, to be in the in-crowd, it is always essential to have the coolest items, so when one teen shows off their fancy new i Pod to their classmates they instantly run home telling their parents about the need and want for this item, and the teens value their friends opinion much more than that of an old person on TV talking about a MP3 player. The reason that this gadget has such an impact on the Generation Y and not any other generation is because they have a need for creativity and to not be the same as everyone else, which is one of the many characteristics of this generation. Generation Y relies on the use of the internet to be able to do their everyday needs, first thing to do in the morning when waking up is to check what is going on with Facebook, twitter, and Instagram, it is required before any teen can even start their day. This has also changed the way their daily routines play out, Generation Y checks their phone when they wake up, checks it when they are out the shower, and even after they are done getting ready, again. This technology is glued to their hands. Today, 2.27 billion people use the internet every day, double what it was five years ago (Arthur). The iPhone just does not offer apps to stay with what is going on in the world but it offers many different means of communication. Teens have the option to make phone calls, text message, video calls, instant message and also social networking. Along with the negative im pact that the iPhone has made, it also can be looked at from a positive standpoint. The iPhone is a great way for communication especially in emergencies, because instead of having to send a text once to everyone, they have invented a group message where you can select multiple numbers and send a mass message out. While many other smartphones have just as much impact on Generation Y, the iPhone makes the biggest impact because of its flexibility and popularity with teens. Along with the invention of the iPod and the iPhone came the invention of the iPad, which has also been made better into an iPad 2 and even an iPad mini. The iPad is a seven to ten inch, thin touch screen device with full color display that can be used as a magazine or a book e-reader (What Does). It is also equipped with internet which allows it to be used to check Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube and it can even support a video game addict who wants to play on the go. The iPad ultimately offers everything that the iPhone does without the calling portion of the phone and it is also a bigger screen. The invention of this tablet can make things such as libraries suffer because it is great for books, magazines, and newspapers (What Does). Generation Y uses the iPad for many different things, it has become important a part of their lives. Generation Y has the opportunity to use their iPads as a text book but this is not necessarily a positive thing because along with the iPad like stated before there is twitter, Instagram, email, and Facebook, and if in the middle of reading the textbook or taking notes, they receive a notification for one of these social networking apps they are not going to turn down the option to check it. Generation Y is known to want to always be in the loop or know the latest news so that is what they do with these social networking apps. The iPad though which has these apps will draw the students away from their professors lectures or even hold them off on getting their homework or reading required done. The impact that the iPad makes on Generation Y is a negative one but can also be positive. The positive effects of this technology are the convenience and the amount of information that they are able to access. With the internet in the palm of the hand Generation Y is able to search the enter web database for whatever is needed, college libraries are even available online now and can easily get an article or book needed transferred through th e online database. Generation Y relies on Facebook as a guide in their day to day lives and it shows how many people are obsessed with what kind of reputation that they have online. The Emancipation Proclamation And Its Consequences During his election campaign and throughout the early years of the Civil War, Lincoln vehemently denied the rumour that he would mount an attack on slavery. At the outbreak of fighting, he pledged to 'restore the Union, but accept slavery where it existed', with Congress supporting his position via the Crittendon-Johnson Resolutions. However, during 1862 Lincoln was persuaded for a number of reasons that Negro emancipation as a war measure was both essential and sound. Public opinion seemed to be going that way, Negro slaves were helping the Southern war effort, and a string of defeats had left Northern morale low. A new moral boost to the cause might give weary Union soldiers added impetus in the fight. Furthermore, if the Union fought against slavery, Britain and France could not help the other side, since their 'peculiar institution' was largely abhorred in both European nations. Having eased the American public into the idea, through speeches that hinted at emancipation, Lincoln finally signed the Proclamation on January 1st 1863, releasing all slaves behind rebel lines. Critics argued that the proclamation went little further than the Second Confiscation Act and it conveniently failed to release prisoners behind Union lines. Nevertheless, Henry Adams summed up public reaction to the Proclamation as an 'almost convulsive reaction in our favour'. During 1862, the abolition movement enjoyed previously unparalleled levels of support and respectability. Wendell Phillips gave rousing speeches in towns where only a year previously, he would have feared for his life. Senator John Sherman wrote to his brother, the general: 'You can form no conception of the change of opinion here as to the Nero question. I am prepared for one to meet the broad issue of emancipation.' A New-England, and therefore radical-dominated Congress received a flood of anti-slavery bills, which they eagerly turned into law. The accumulation of debt from loaning from abroad because of a recurring BOP deficit is known as international debt. International debt developed into a problem for many developing countries, Third world countries, which are the poorer countries of the world. These are countries in Africa, Asia and South America and they represent the largest group of countries in the world both in area and population, but the lowest in income and wealth. The cause of the international debt in LDCs is their chronic balance of payments problems. They owe huge sums of money and they need to pay large sums in interest. A country can use many different policies to correct and reverse the deficit. People will have less money to spend on imports, imports would decrease and the BOP deficit will be corrects. Nevertheless, a decrease in aggregate demand also affects the domestic industries. Less of their products would be demanded, they will produce less and as a result they will cause unemployment. The government can also decide to increase interest rates. This will attract inflows of Hot money (Short term investments of large sums of money that investors move from country to country in search for the best interest rates) into the country correcting the BOP deficit. The downside of this will be that the high interest rates will make borrowing more expensive and as a result consumers will borrow less for consumption and firms less for investment. Protectionism policies may be applied. These are policies to prevent trade between countries and decrease imports so that the BOP deficit is corrected. Unfortunately some protectionist policies such as import tariffs or imports quotas are usually not in the disposal of countries members of custom unions such as the European Union. A devaluation in the country’s currency will lower its value and make the country’s exports cheaper for foreign countries to buy and at the same time the imports into that country will be more expensive. As a result exports will increase and impost will decrease, thus the BOP deficit will be corrected. This is not possible for members of the ERM of the EU. In the long run a country may decide to improve the competitiveness of its Industries through supply side measures such as regional policies. Nevertheless, these policies are very time consuming and will take a lot of time to work. The country can also demand through the IMF a debt rescheduling and or new loans. This involves lowering the interest rates on existing loans, lengthening the repayment period and, or, canceling part of the debts. The IMF can provide additional loans or arrange so that financial institutions do it, with a guarantee from the IMF. In order for the IMF to do these it sets certain conditions and structural adjustment programmes that the country must follow. These conditions and programmes involve most of the policies discussed above. A further, policy would be to encourage commercial banks to finance private sector development. If governments spend too much they have a budget deficit and their income is less than their expenditure. This deficit is financed by borrowing large amounts from commercial banks and as a result not many funds are left to lend to the private sector. The IMF wants commercial banks to lend more money to the private sector, which is expected to make better use of the funds for development projects.

A narcissist view himself/herself in a positive but unrealistic self-concept. It also results in lack of interest in forming relationships, and a commitment in regulating one’s self to ensure a positive view (Campbell & Foster, 2007). Narcissists tend to live with this style of life which is a result of wanting to be safe by living all by themselves, and to develop high self-esteem. Every SNS has its unique features that attract users. These features contribute to the increasing number of adolescents and young adult narcissists in the Philippines. Other SNSs have a feature that focuses on â€Å"about me† of the user, some let the users tag photos, post photos and create status posts and updates. Another thing is that, 83% of Facebook users are young adults. Youth presents themselves online with different aspects of life, such as their real self, ideal self, and false self. With this modern world, they can present themselves using different medium, especially Facebook since most of its users are young adults. The Needs of a Narcissist and his/her way to compensate for it through Facebook. Narcissists regulate their self-presentation to ensure positive self-view, they also tend to lack in interest to form relationship. Unique feature and characteristic on Facebook is perfect to aid these traits of a narcissist. The unique features of Facebook are mostly technical features (e.g. applications, photo, news feed, friend list, poke, status, video, group, chat, and like), some of these unique technical features satisfy the needs of a narcissist for exhibition/self-presentation (e.g. friend list, status, photo and video). Another feature of Facebook is its unique way of adding friends. Narcissists are afraid of forming strong bonds; they are attracted to Facebook because they can create relationship with loose or â€Å"weak ties†. A person with high personal preference for exhibitionism/self-presentation feels free to take the center of the stage and to attract attention (Bulatao, et. al.). Exhibitionism is defined as calling an attention to oneself and leaving an impression (Hall. et. al.). SNSs, like Facebook, allow users to control their self-presentation. This unique characteristic attracts narcissist because they will have more opportunity to alter their appearance and personality in online SNSs than in face-to-face interaction. Given that users of SNSs have almost full control over information disclosure, they can be more strategic in managing self-presentation. Profile picture is the most important aspect or part of self-presentation because they represent the individual in most of his online actions and activity. To affirm their positive but unrealistic, idealized and inflated self-view, narcissists tend to make their profile pictures more attractive and self-promoting. They choose profile pictures where they look more physically attractive; they also edit and refine their photos to hide their flaws. In a research done by Laura E. Buffardi and W. Keith Campbell, they found out that narcissists post in their â€Å"about me† section and status updates are mostly self-promoting. They do this by posting less entertaining but much more intelligent quotes. In the same research, they also found out that narcissists’ photos are more attractive that those of the nonnarcissist. They also post photos in which they look more attractive and self promoting. Narcissists are also afraid of creating strong bonds. The unique â€Å"Friend list† of Facebook creates â€Å"weak ties† since the friendship of the two individuals in Facebook is imaginary. It means that some of a narcissist’s friends may be friends in real life, but other, most likely most of the FB friends, relationship or bond is only on the online entity, or simply imaginary. In the same research by Buffardi and Campbell, they found out that  narcissist have more Facebook friends than nonnracissistic individuals. Narcissists seek attention and approval, they do this to gain or maintain their self-esteem. In this world where SNSs dominate the lives of most people, especially the youth, it is not surprising to observe that narcissist fulfill their needs through SNSs, particularly Facebook. Conclusion Social Networking Sites, like Facebook, help people in many ways especially in communicating, but it also have consequences like promoting narcissism. Facebook promotes narcissism because its unique feature and characteristic stated in the body of this paper (e.g. SNSs’ giving the users almost full control over information disclosure, and Facebook’s unique â€Å"Friend list† that create â€Å"weak ties† which a narcissist seeks) aid their needs for exhibition/self-presentation and formulating connection of weak ties to boost their self-esteem. This unique characteristic and feature of Facebook promotes narcissism of the Filipino youth. Limitation This paper only focuses on the Filipino youth. The findings in this research paper may not be plausible to other sectors. This may affect by the culture, etnicity, age, gender, and other external and internal factors. Life Span Perspective Essay

The definition of a person’s lifespan is from the moment that they are conceived to the moment that they pass away. The development of this life is defined through the various stages in which that person develops. When a person is looking at the perspective of this lifespan development, they are trying to understand what changes during the development and why it happens. There have been many psychologists that have looked at this and developed many different theories about development, and you can see that there are many influences that help push these theories into reality. Definition of Lifespan Development A person and their lifespan start out when they are conceived and then grow and develop for nine months in the womb. During this time that person will develop into either a male or a female. Once they are born they will continue to experience changes and different developments while they age. There are different stages in their life that will show different changes within them. The study of how we understand how humans change over a lifetime is called the study of human development, (Berger, 2008). When looking at the development of a person, you can make a pattern out of it from one person to another, but there are cases that the development does not follow a set path. The most common stages of development are birth, infancy, adolescence, adult, elderly, (old age), and death. Lifespan Perspective Lifespan perspective has three different domains in looking at the development of a person. These domains are physical, cognitive, and social domains. Physical domain is looking into the aging and growth of the physical being, (Sigelman & Rider, 2009). The cognitive domain looks into the mind and examines memory, language, perception, and problem solving. The last domain looks at the person’s personality, emotions, and relationships. This study of the human development is one that will probably never end, since there are so many factors when looking at the development of a person. Theories There have been many different theories that go into this portion of psychology. With these theories, people need to examine what are actually in these theories before trying to understand what lifespan development actually is. Piaget Piaget’s theory on development puts a lot of emphasis on the development of thought process. His cognitive theory has been in the front of this study since the 1980s and has had many different versions formed from it, (Berger, 2008). He had figured out that since children are so curious that there are age related stages to the development of the mind. Piaget put these into four different stages. The stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. The sensorimotor stage is from birth to the age of two where the child uses their motor skills and different senses to try and understand the world around them. The preoperational stage is from the ages of two and six. This is where the child tries to use language to understand everything that is around them. The concrete operational stage happens from the ages of six and eleven. This is where the child starts to understand and use different logical operations to understand the world. The last sate happens from the age of twelve through adulthood. This is where they start to think with different hypothetical concepts and reason without having emotions interfere. Freud Sigmund Freud had a similar but different look on the stages of development. Freud believed that there were three stages of development and that all of them revolved around sexual pleasure. He thought that that infancy was an oral stage, early childhood was an anal stage, and that the years around the age of going to preschool was the phallic stage, (Berger, 2008). With this theory the interpretation of an adult would be a constant struggle in the person’s unconscious from childhood on up. Nature and Nurture There have been many debates over the influence of nature and nurture in this field. When looking at this field a person can see that there is help from both influences when shaping the development of a person. Nature is where genetics is passed down from one person to the next and nature is a person’s abilities and temperaments, (Guest, 2011). Everything that is around a person can affect their development, such as friends, schools, and religion. Each of these takes most effect when the child is in early development, which is one of the most crucial times for a person and their development. Conclusion The development of a person from life to death is the scientific study of lifespan development. This perspective can be seen in three different domains and five different stages of characteristics. There were many different theories on this subject, but Piaget thought there were four stages that happened in the mind while Freud thought there were three stages that was focused on sexuality.

Other poor whites were dependent on agriculture and feared to loose their property if they would be of any help to Black female slaves. Therefore, no one dared to voice against such slave owners, even including the family members of the female slave would remain quiet. However, there was general opinion among white females that the abuse of Black slaves was acceptable and that males and white masters are the dominant gender. Most white women were also quiet because not only that they thought slavery was an acceptable thing but they were receiving a lot benefits like money, food and free labor. Daughters or wives were solely dependent on their fathers and husbands. To voice against them meant to deprive themselves of all those benefits they were receiving. To help slave women for their sexual and autonomic identity was to worsen the situation prevailing at that time. The story is essentially a moral code for the slave owners as to how to properly care for the slaves and their overseers. Initially the slaves are spoken of as though they are children who need to be watched over for their own safety and discipline. Slave’s behavior is seen as something unchangeably infantile, no amount of education on morals will change their behavior and they will always succumb to the temptations of thievery and malice toward their masters. It is not a function of the desire to be free, rather it is a function of their immature nature in the eyes of the masters and something to be controlled. These masters viewed themselves as benevolent, as though they were doing a service to the slaves in their charge by taking charge of their lives and keeping their souls out of the trouble to which they would be tempted. The care taken of the slaves is only so that they will be comfortable enough to continue to work and reproduce, not out of care for them as humans. To care for them as humans would require thinking of them as such, doing so would bring up the idea that as humans they deserve the freedom that the masters enjoyed. Masters of the slaves expect obedience and respect from their slaves. However, in return masters must also show their good attitude towards their slaves. They must be honest and truthful with their slaves. Slaves are after all humans who need to be cared off. The way masters will treat their slaves, the same they will get in return. Masters should show firmness and kindness towards their slaves to get their trust. And they must control their temper when dealing with them. In addition, slaves should be given their complete food and diet to keep them healthy and fulfill their needs of the daily work. It is clear, however, that the masters view their slaves as nothing higher than any farm animal. Something to be taken care of for its usefulness, to be cared for so that it will serve its purpose without trouble in the same category as a horse or a cow. Slavery is understood by the slaves to be an oppressive system inflicted by one group of humans upon another, and oppression of any type should not be tolerated. Freedom is a God-given right to all humans and to voluntarily submit to having that freedom taken away is an abomination against God, an enormous sin. Garnet, freed men and slaves believed that slavery set all the laws given by God aside and caused the slaves to make reverence to their masters before God and to submit themselves other than to Him, which is against the first commandment of their Christian belief. This made it necessary to revolt against slavery and endeavor for freedom in any way, even if it meant death because death itself was preferable to oppression. They were willing to sacrifice their lives rather than live as slaves, treated no better than animals rather than with the respect of men. What is most interesting about the story is that it is not an incitement to violence, rather it is an order for those enslaved to demand their freedom. If they were to recognize that their numbers made such a demand possible without violence there could be some resolution to slavery without bloodshed.
